How an Elementary Teacher incorporated Night Zookeeper into their daily timetable

We’re extremely lucky to work with some of the most amazing teachers in the world, as the Night Zookeeper community continues to grow every day! It’s always great to hear about what they’re loving and what they’re finding challenging, as well as how they’re using Night Zookeeper in their unique situations. We thought that it was a little selfish to keep these stories all to ourselves, so we want to start sharing them with you on a weekly basis.

This week, our Night Zookeeper Teacher in the spotlight is Lisa Wiegand. Lisa is an experienced teacher working in Indiana, who has been using Night Zookeeper for the over the past year.

We know that a school day is always jam packed, how do you use Night Zookeeper with your class?

It is a daily option for students when they finish their assignments for the day. Some days I schedule it as their morning work or their free writing time. I do schedule grammar and comprehension lessons on the Lesson Hive (a collection of lessons) that I use as mini assessments.

What are your favourite things to do with your students on Night Zookeeper?

I love to see my students writing on Night Zookeeper, either through the writing tasks or the free write tool. I also use the Lesson Hive to send lessons that are relevant to our class learning.

How has Night Zookeeper had an impact on teaching and learning in your classroom?

It is a fun way for students to use their creativity. They love the program and keep track of their progress easily. It has energised my students to write more.

It is essential in creating a writing atmosphere in my classroom.
