The summer holidays are a time for recharging batteries, having fun and making memories; it is also a time for drawing a line under the previous year and forgetting all of the wonderful learning that happened. Here at Night Zookeeper, we want to help your students settle into their new school year with confidence and the opportunity to revisit some of the fantastic skills that they acquired previously.
We are launching ‘Sam’s September of Skills’
This is an in-depth resource jam-packed with activities to practise writing skills that students will need over the coming year, with appearances from their favourite Night Zoo inhabitants. Each activity is focused on a strand of spelling, vocabulary and grammar to help students improve as well as ensuring that they are confident in their proof-reading of spelling and punctuation.
Each of the activities should take no longer than 15 minutes to complete and are ideal for collaboration and independent learning. They would be ideal as a starter within the lesson or as an early morning activity.
The resource pack is separated into age brackets (5-8) and (9-11). This ensures that students will be tackling the skills that are appropriate to their age and writing ability.
Each resource is dedicated to a core skill and consists of up to two missions. Just like this example:
Mission 1: a warm-up to remind children of the rules for that particular strand. This gives a little reminder of the rules or examples for the children to use and a chance to practise with guidance and a guide.
Mission 2: an opportunity for children to apply their skill and add their own ideas. Students will be required to independently think of ideas and decide how to incorporate their skill, this is also a good opportunity to encourage independence when checking their work.
We hope your students enjoy these new challenges and as always, please let us know if you have any comments or feedback below.
